NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An online auction house has posted a $1.6 million sale of silverware and gold that was supposed to be up for grabs Thursday.
The listing of $1,000 silver plate with a date of May 16, 2017 on the website of New York-based SilverStone.com has generated more than $100,000 for SilverStone, the auction house said in a statement.
It was originally supposed to sell for $4,800, but it was reduced to $1 a piece because of the recent stock market volatility.
SilverStone said the buyer is a “local resident of the United States” and has paid the seller a total of $100.00, which is to be split between two different people.
The sale will be held in Las Vegas and the buyer will have the option of returning the plate to SilverStone and paying for shipping costs.
The seller has not yet responded to CBS2’s request for comment.
